A Pair of Dice Lost

Kids swapping board games for Pacman,
Western canon’s Stock, Aitken, Waterman,
The latest nuclear family’s been blown to pieces,
God’s wrath is a green slime pop-culture thesis.

We won’t read Milton, they can count the cost,
Our teacher’s lesson laments a pair of dice lost.

Apathetic and high on euphemistic cream pie,
Culture’s reborn, cynically; it’s not sent off to die,
Renaissance art, it seems, will eventually be dead,
This decade’s children want public television instead.

We won’t read Milton, they can count the cost,
Our teacher’s lesson laments a pair of dice lost.

Rebellion’s nothing now to girls like Trudi,
Nothing’s shocking, it seems, circa late 1983,
Life is burgers, consumed in spite of the taste,
And water? Say the word, and it’ll go to waste.
